altTEHRAN – Kurdistan Regional Government President Massoud Barzani has said that Iraq is ready for cooperation with Iran to increase the security of the two countries’ common border.

“The security of the Islamic Republic of Iran is highly important to Iraq. The insecurity of the borders will harm the two countries, so we are completely ready for comprehensive cooperation in this regard,” Barzani said during a meeting with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran on Sunday.

He also called for the expansion of bilateral relations in all spheres and said that Iran and Iraq should stand by each other on the path to development.

Ahmadinejad also said that all Iraqi groups and tribes should maintain unity and solidarity to help the country move smoothly on the path to progress.

“Iran supports the progress, development, and security of Iraq and believes that (Iraq’s progress) will benefit the whole region,” Ahmadinejad said.

In addition, he said that the foundations of the world’s system of governance have been undermined and the nations are disenchanted with the current world order, so all nations should work together to create an alternative world’s system.
